What is a Babymoon and Why You Should Plan For It

What do you get with a couple who loves to travel and are pregnant? An epic babymoon trip! So first of all, what is a babymoon? A babymoon is essentially one last trip the soon-to-be mommy and her partner take together before their bundle of joy arrives. It can be a weekend getaway, a roadtrip to wherever, or in my case, an 11 day trip to Italy and Greece. Whatever suits your fancy.

For us, we wanted a trip that would incorporate both a little adventure and a lot of rest.

Greece

Athens was our first stop. In Athens, the main attractions are the Greek ruins. While we were there they were doing some renovations which is what you can see in the picture above. In order to see a lot of the ruins and get all the way to the top of the mountain, we walked A LOT in the hot Greek sun (we went in the month of June so temps were around 80 degrees). For sure my advice would be to bring light cool clothing and comfortable walking shoes if you plan to venture off and explore the ruins. It was a real hike, especially being preggo. Nonetheless I would do it again and again because how could you go to Athens and not see Acropolis?!

Next up, Santorini! Ahh what a luxurious island. Everything looks so clean and white, the water is so crisp that it looks fake, the hotels and cuisine have the best customer service and best food, I can go on and on. Santorini is truly the place to be if you want to relax and just soak in the views. Hubby and I were lazy the whole time in Santorini, just ordering food by the pool side and staying up late talking on our hotel balcony with the island glistening by moonlight.

Last stop in Greece, Mykonos! the party island. Well we didn’t party, unless you count the restaurants blasting loud house music and us lounging on the beach while eating our food. Mykonos was just a feel good place with many dining options and of course the beautiful beach. Here we did some more relaxing and actually walked around a lot more than in Santorini since Santorini was more mountainous and spread out than Mykonos. Check out a few pictures below.

Italy

Italy had a little adventure and relaxation as well. We were on the move, visiting four cities during our stay. Unlike in Greece where we did not venture out and pretty much walked wherever we needed to go, in Italy we rented a car and made several day trips to the surrounding cities around Naples. I will say Italy just made sense because of the proximity to Greece. Our flights in between the countries was no more than two hours.

I talk all about our Italy stop here.

What I liked the most about our trip was that hubby and I truly got to sit down and connect with each other. With work and the extra pressures of welcoming life into this world it was nice for those 11 days to focus on one another and just truly enjoy each other’s company. A babymoon, no matter where you go or for how long is so important because you’re making time for the relationship and prioritizing it. Something that won’t come as easy once the baby arrives. For this reason I would suggest all couples to take the time out and really pick a place that suits your wants and where you will make beautiful memories to cherish.

Have you gone on a babymoon? If so, where to? Please share.

With LOVE,
