6' x 6' Nursery Space

When we found out we were pregnant one of the first things that came to mind was the nursery! Although we have an extra bedroom in the house, we like to keep it open for the occasional guests. Also, not ready to move and leave our apartment that is in a prime location, we had to get creative. I will take the credit here because after all my Pinterest searching days, sometimes I get an idea or two that really works. So what do you do when you’re renting and can’t put up walls to create a bedroom? … you create a space with curtains! I will be attaching photos from before to after below.

We drilled a track into the ceiling and bought these curtains from Room Dividers that we felt matched our space best. Then came the challenging part of deciding how to prioritize and organize to best utilize our tiny space. And get this, we even had a little extra space for storage.

My giraffe themed nursery was inspired by my safari experience in the Kingdom of Eswatini (Formerly known as Swaziland). I just really fell in love with the giraffes seeing them in person. Also, I wanted a neutral nursery so that we can reuse some of the furniture for our next baby which is why the color scheme is white, grey, and yellow.

After deciding on a color scheme and theme, the next thing was to choose our bare necessities since space was really tight. I went with a mini crib although I could have fit a regular crib because I wanted to be able to fit (and roll, the crib has wheels!) the crib in our bedroom. That was my plan at least, but in reality she’s still sleeping in her lounger in our bed. Anyways, after the mini crib, the dresser/changing table was another crucial piece of furniture we needed. Next up, closet space. So I have always seen pictures of ways to create closet space depending on your needs. I thought we needed to clear up floor space so the best way to do that was to have the closet rods hanging from the wall. The diaper pail and hamper fit into their respective spaces, and of course we needed a 4ft giraffe in the room because it just really completes the whole nursery. The storage shelf was not a necessity but definitely useful to house extra blankets and her humidifier and white noise machine. The last picture in the slide show shows our tiny little storage where I put her extra diapers, wipes, her bathtub, etc.

And there you have it, we created a perfect nursery space that can be used again for baby #2 and then baby #1 will transition to the second bedroom.

Side note: her beautiful piece of wall art on the brick wall was made by a local Brooklyn artist.
