The Best Stroller for City Living

It is no secret that living in NYC means less space. Unless you’re a multi millionaire and can afford your own penthouse or renovated brownstone, then chances are you have had to become accustomed to sharing space. Sharing space in the home, on the sidewalk, on public transportation, in restaurants, etc., is one of the facts of life in the city. There are just too many people everywhere! With that being said, getting around in NYC can be a challenge if you’re not adequately prepared.

Since moving to the city I have become pretty good at traveling light while still carrying all of my necessities. After I found out I was pregnant my obsession with everything miniature and multi purpose was on overdrive. For example, we created a whole nursery in a tiny 6x6 space! read more on this from my previous post here.

When looking for a stroller I knew I needed something compact and light since we live on a second floor with no elevator. I researched many strollers and also went to the NYC baby expo to test out everything that was on the market. One stroller in particular stood out amongst the rest for its portability and lightness — a little known brand, Cybex.

What we noticed immediately at the baby expo was that amongst all of the other brand of strollers the Cybex Mios was particularly narrow. For us, that was exactly what we needed. We often venture out and need something that can fit in narrow spaces, including our entryway. Along with being narrow, it is easy to fold with one hand and very light to carry. We also purchased our car seat from the same brand because its safety standards far exceeded what we saw with the other brands.

Here is a bulleted list of the Pros and cons of the Cybex Mios.

Pros

  • Lightweight

  • Narrow

  • Compact

  • Folds neatly with one hand

Cons

  • The storage space underneath is a little small

  • Because it’s lightweight, if you put anything in the under carriage it weighs the stroller down and can make it a little harder to navigate (think shopping cart when it is unbalanced with heavier items on one end of the cart)

Needless to say in my opinion the pros outweigh the cons and thus we are very satisfied with our purchase. I highly recommend this stroller for anyone who either lives in NYC, or even any other city. It will save you the hassle of trying to fit in public places. You don’t think about how much of a struggle it can be fitting through doors or around people seated in a restaurant (trust me I have seen parents struggling with this, as if trying to enjoy a meal outside isn’t a challenge on its own). This is why one should be weary of bulky, heavy strollers when living in a city.

After much research I came to the conclusion that this was the best stroller on the market for my family’s needs. To all my fellow mommies out there, what are some other brand of strollers that you love and why? Leave your comments below.

With Love,
