Belize
Belize is now my second home. My hubby was born and raised in this beautiful country so naturally, it’s become my home as well. We first traveled to Belize at the beginning of our relationship and I must say it was a trip to remember. This beautiful country has so much to offer, from dense rainforest full of adventure, to historic Mayan ruins with a story to tell. We mainly visited his home town Dangriga which is in Central Belize.
Our trip started in Belize City and from there we took a Cessna to Dangriga. The experience was truly breathtaking. Being on a tiny plane and flying low enough to really see and take in the ocean and landscape was just surreal. Upon arriving we were greeted by his mother who then drove us home. The town itself is very quaint — a beach town tucked away. After going to a local soccer game (which is popular in Belize, that and basketball), and also a traveling Carnival, I realized just how much of a melting pot this country is. Almost half of the people speak Spanish. Belize’s national language is English so although one may expect to encounter Spanish-speaking people in Central America, I was still surprised. Although there is that mix of people, there are populations that either strictly speak Spanish or English. I now know that a Belizean does not have a certain look or language, the people are very unique and have kept their ancestral cultures despite settling in one country.
If you’re looking for your next travel destination Belize should be on the top of your list and not only because of its unique culture, but also due to its pristine landscape. More and more tourists are discovering Belize and flocking to it. In fact, many new construction homes are visible along the coastline from foreigners capitalizing on this little known treasure. So whether you want a destination filled with adventure, think hiking up the mountains and zip lining, or you want relaxation, think a bungalow over the water, then this is the country to visit. Not to mention, Belize is also known for its coral reefs, have you ever heard of The Belize Barrier Reef ? It is a World Heritage Site because of its uniquely diverse ecosystem which means if you’re into snorkeling and scuba diving, this is another great reason Belize should be your next travel destination!
oh, and when you come, make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and light clothing since even in the winter months it is HOT!
